That is the stupidest anime [omitted] I have ever heard in my life. The Crystal Empire is the most highly protected, but also the most sought-after provenance in Equestria. To expand it would only make it a bigger target for malicious forces. But if Princess Cadance really wanted to, they could just make the protective bubble bigger and turn more of the arctic into habitable land.

According to the ask blog ask-cadance, and several blogs that are associated with it, including prince-shining-armor and lettersforcelestia, a war has been going on for the last two or three months between Equestria and the Crystal Empire. It started when Cadance asked Celestia for half of Equestria’s land so as to expand the Crystal Empire into more usable territory. When Celestia declined, Cadance grew frustrated and threw her pet cat at Celestia.

Afterwards,  Cadence decided to declare war against the “Solar Empire”, stating in an ask that “The love and and hope that is centered in our empire reflects across Equestira. Do we not get anything in return?” As a symbol of the starting act of war, all of the Crystal Empire’s troops, which consisted of the Crystal Guard and the large number of volunteers, would be transformed into cats.

With the war underway, Cadance began the transformations and attempted to call Luna and Twilight to her side. While Luna stayed with Celestia, Twilight did join, though it is believed that neither were given much choice in their allegience.

For weeks, the Crystal Empire would send waves of cats to attack Canterlot, mostly via catapult. During this time, Shining Armor left the empire so as to alleviate the stress combined from being in a war and his severe cat allergy. Cadence largely ignored this, being too focused on the war effort, and later returned out of dedication to his wife..

Reportedly, Celestia has disguised herself as a cat and is infiltrating the Empire. So far she has kept herself incognito both via this disguise and a spell that generates a harmless, but distracting, laser out of her forehead. Also, Cadence has realized how far gone she is and is in despair.
