You know what I never understood? What I’ve been scratching my head on for years?
Why is a male Fluttershy called Butterscotch? It doesn’t make any sense. Fluttershy doesn’t mean anything. It’s just two words stuck together; flutter and shy. Butterscotch is a candy. And if you separate the two words, butter is churned milk and scotch (if you’re not talking about the drink) means to wedge or divide something. The two names, and the words from which they are comprised, have no meaningful relation on any level.
The only logical connection Butterscotch could have would be from the word Butterfly, which has the same number of syllables as Fluttershy. But Butterscotch doesn’t even have the same number of syllables!
Why not something that at least follows the meaning of the words like Quivercoy or Timid Drift? Timiddrift. Timidrift. However you want to spell it!
I’m just saying, Rarity to Elusive. Twilight Sparkle to Dusk Shine. Pinkie Pie to Bubble Berry is a bit of a stretch, but I get the idea. Fluttershy to… Butterscotch?
