of the genre of turn based tactics i must say that disgaea was the best, so after playing that i really didnt feel i could say any game was bad, because disgaea was so much fun. that and i didnt get real far into tactics so i cant verify any of your complaints.
Disgaea was pretty nice. I’ve played through that, Makai Kingdom, Phantom Brave, and Disgaea 2. All fine choices! I also have this game called Stella Deus. Seemed alright, but I never got through it. Something big came out that drew my attention away.
I still stand by FFT as being the best.
On the other hoof, I also not only beat Tactics Advance, I also did all of the side missions. Just so nopony would ever be able to argue with me about it. That game was awful. There was no excuse for it.
Edit: Holy moly! I forgot about Front Mission 3! Fantastic game!
