The money is not physicaly there.
The money comes from the fact that, even if you don't count the books, you could throw a pebble in my home and it would land on an ancient, priceless artifact that I found in ruins around the world.
As for orphanages, I make a yearly donation to every existing hospital and orphanage in Equestria under a false name. I will not disclose how much I donate, because that would ruin the point of the fake name. The point is, Miss Lyra, I do good, but I do not need or want recognition. The good I do is reward enough.
But yes, I could effectively fund a small country for about ten years entirely on what I possess.

There are only two orphanages in Equestria. I know, because I’ve volunteered to both of them. There isn’t even one in Canterlot, let alone Ponyville. The good you do, the one that’s reward enough? Isn’t enough.

Think Celestia Scootaloo almost died, so that we could at least find out she has no where to go every night.

I 'am' some history buff.
Each and every book is one that I aquired through trial, tribulation, and the risk of life and limb. They are ancient historical Texts, Spellbooks, maps, cookbooks, potionguides, etc.
All have historical value. and 1/3 of my collection is a gift from the princess because I am a licensed branch of the Royal Historical Archives.

Your sitting on enough money to start your own small country! More importantly, enough to make and fund an orphanage in every major town in all of Equestria for the next thirty years!

Math time

Okay, Type, lets say your house is five hundred feet in diameter and five stories high, and only the outside walls were book shelves that held three books vertically. Even if each book was a feet (or would that be foot?) wide, you’d have over fourteen thousand books.

There are libraries in Canterlot that don’t have that many books! What are you doing with all those books?!

My home is wide as one and a half soccer fields end to end.

If all of your walls are bookshelves, do you just put chairs and lights in the middle of the rooms? That probably looks… strange… I mean, wouldn’t every room just look the same?

Did you inherit such a strange place to live? I’d sell that thing and move somewhere more domestic. Probably make a killing off of some history buff.

That spell I cast on myself the other day that turned me into a human, it just wore off. I'm still trying to stand up without falling over and see straight at the same time. But it was fun.

Each level of your tower is either bigger than Ponyville, or smaller than our house. I’m going to see if I can find some outside information.
