I'm not exactly the "Music aficionado" but In my opinion, I thought Kirby piece was a bit to "Jumbled" for a lack of a better word, all the instruments sounded to alike in tone so it sounded more like someone was dragging there hands across a keyboard while someone else was playing an actual song in the background. Also the individual volume of each instrument could probably be adjusted so that the "Main" Melody is in the foreground, rather than mixed with the rest of it.

Yeah… I noticed that… Unfortunately my lyre was the cause (I played bass). The original chiptune used more varied sounds. I think that’s the problem.
I could try and quieten things down on the bass side and upload it again while I’m working on something else, but I think that first problem is the major one. And there isn’t really anything I can do to solve it.
Live and learn.
You're a gorgeous, insightful, brilliant soul. I love you as a friend. I'm anon because I don't want to offend you. I just thought I needed to remind you of what a great pony you are.

Um… wow.
I sort of wish I knew who you were, but if you think I shouldn’t know, I won’t argue. Thank you none-the-less!
Now if I could just pinpoint where exactly things went wrong with that Kirby piece this would be a great day…
It's not my fault I'm so sensitive! I..I just can't help it!..
You don’t need to help it! It’s not a bad thing! It’s what makes you you!
I’m sorry ponies are harassing you about it now, though.
If you ponies are listening, leave Carrot Top alone! She’s a lady!
You would like that, wouldn't you..
You’re just so sensitive!
I’m sorry, it’s endearing in a way! I had to become so callus to survive growing up… And I can’t always control it.
But you’re liable to turn red if someone says ‘erotic’ in a seductive tone!
Edit: It’s just so completely alien to me. I respect you for it, though!
First of all, thank you Tech Spec, Octavia’s Cello, and Proto Pony for being the only three that actually give me some feedback (It’s okay, Gilda. You couldn’t really be subjective here)!
The general consensus seems to be that something was wrong with the pace.
- Jumbled
- Inconstant Pace
- Rushed at the beginning
If this doesn’t mesh with what you thought, please let me know. I have another relatively fast paced song planned next, and I really don’t want a repeat of this.
Nah, it's a pretty hardy instrument. I don't have anyone of the right ethnicity and experience to tell me what I doing wrong either. I'm just horrible at playing flutes, I imagine. Well, I suppose I'll go ask Octavia, but I hear she only really plays cello. Thanks for the quick response! ~musicssound

Well, worth a try! I imagine she hangs out with more flute players than I.
DJ Pon3 can have a surprising knowledge as well!
I recently found myself in possession of a Nepali bansuri, but I'm not having any luck trying to play it. I've always been more of a reed-based woodwind pony myself, and supposedly this thing is played like a flute. Got any tips? ~musicssound

Never heard of it. I bet someone in Canterlot would know!
I did a search and found this. Are you positive it isn’t damaged? They sound fragile.
Okay… So.

Message received, don’t do that again.
Can I get an idea of what was so bad about it? Too tangential? Too fast? Sound running together? (Luna forbid) Too unrecognizable?
Okay, I think I found my backbone in a corner.
When Gilda initially came over for a recording, she was kinda buzzing. I couldn’t really get her to play by the piece by-the-book for a while. The result was some pretty gnarly stuff, but most of it I had to discard because it went too far off on a tangent of its own.
I did manage to fit some of it in, though! And that’s what you’ll start hearing here and there about halfway into the piece!
Thanks again to Gilda for the guitar work. And also Star Catcher this time for providing recorder support during the refrain! Much richer sound than guitar alone!
Is this okay? Or would everypony prefer to hear pieces performed by-the-book?
Edit: Also, sorry it’s so short. I thought I had more to work with.
how’s ‘bout a terrible song to make ya feel better….. like rebecca black, friday!………………… get it?
I am not submitting that.
That… thing is up there with screamo on my list of noise that should never have been. Let alone considered music.
And I might get some flak for that statement (mostly the screamo part, I can’t imagine anypony actually liking that… I’m not calling it a song), and that’s fine. But remember that it’s just my opinion in music.
besides, "ripping it up like that" makes you fingers 1.raw 2. full of calus 3. smell weird. ask gilda, (even though i don't like her that much)
Gilda’s a delightful lady when you give her some space! I don’t know why every pony has such a strong stigma against her…
But if I could play like that, it would be with magic, so no danger of that for me. I just can’t focus fast enough to shift my grasp all over the place.
I want to try guitar; Marty gave me one. But I’ll stick with the lyre for now.
don't be insecure, i'm sure whatever you post is gonna be danm fine!
Uh… Maybe I’ll just wait a bit. Let all that talent side down the dash for a spell while I get my nerves back.
Okay, enough music submissions! You’re all gonna make me develop a complex!
I’m insecure enough as it is!
Interesting and tranquil, but not really my style.
but remember, "its not how many notes you play, but what you do with the notes you do play", Rick Emmett
That’s true.
But ripping it up like that sure is something!
I’ve seen that percussion technique before, too. I wish I could do that on my lyre.
