Ask Lyra

1) I remember this!

Boo. Wa-wa hoo-hoo hoo. (Content warning for… I mean it’s Professor Brothers. Usual Brad Neely adult shenanigans.)

2) Lyra: You know what? That’s it. That’s it! I’m gonna find one of those creepy curio shops. I’m gonna buy a… Like a glass minotaur hand or somethin’. I’m gonna set that thing on display smack-dab in the center of the living room table-

Bon-Bon: No you’re not either.

Lyra: And the next time somepony is all, “Huh huh huh, hands.” I’m gonna be all “There! Right there, mother [omitted]! I have a freakin’ hand!”

3) … What?

4) Gundam was pretty cool, sure!

Sorry about the music. I mean, I went to a Hearth’s Warming party last night and not a single Hearth’s Warming song was played.

5) How did my computer, at the receiving end of this message, automatically translate this?

And what is morse code?

Hey, Bon-Bon…?

… Where did this umbrella come from?

1) Bon-Bon: Well, uh. Indirectly? I would say the world would have indirectly been in danger, had we failed.

Lyra: Hold up. After everything I’ve been through, I never saved the world. You’re saying you did?

Bon-Bon: Indirectly.

Lyra: Excuse me, I’m going to go bury my head in the dirt.

2) Lyra: We got hea~a~arts; hearts strong as horse~s!

Bon-Bon: Ugh. Half the town has been singing that song since Saturday. I mean, it’s an alright song. Great work by the fillies for making it up. But all day in the shop it’s like every pony that happens by is singing or humming that song!

Lyra: We’ve got de-ter-min-ation; to rep-resent the nation- For. The. Wi~n!

1) Exactly! The rotating world map was really the worst possible thing.

That also brings up an interesting point about the differences in DW and DW:G. DW:G has sort of become what DW used to be. The pace of DW has slowed down a lot in favor of more and more enemies. After reading a bit on DW:G3, I might need to revisit the series. It sounds rad. More like DW7 than 8.

2) Uh… Skipping that other part, you do realize that a bad guy is just the protagonist of their own story, right?

3) I wouldn’t know. I don’t listen to the radio.

We got hearts

Do do do doodoo

We got hearts

Do do do doodoo

Ba-du baa baa baa~

Wait, where did I hear that from?

Okay, haha. So you may recall this post. Well, a few days ago I started playing the first Digital Devil Saga. I was sort of expecting it to just be a nice diversion. You know, until I get something else to do (like maybe a new game for Hearth’s Warming I’m expecting, but you didn’t just read that because I don’t know anything about it).

I am thirty-six hours in and I have misjudged the poop out of this game. Holy moley, is it ever awesome! There are some issues here and there, particularly when I compare it to Nocturne. But the good far outweighs the bad here! Once I finish I totes want to do another write up like I did with that Deus Ex game.

1) Uh… Not really. That sounds painful.

I went to your deviant art. The weapons and stuff was kinda cool! I’d have gone with some more diverse choices than swords, but your depictions were great!

Of course, you don’t follow me sooo… You’re probably never gonna see this!

2) I don’t have any reason to believe anything sinister going on. I figured they were just trying to sell merchandise.

What kind of unknown entity would we be talking about here?

3) I loved pretty much everything about Deadly Premonition that wasn’t a result of poor controls and navigation (in particular, that un-zoom-out-able, rotating, overworld map).

Regarding Memento, it’s not like you’re watching the movie backwards. You’re watching fairly long scenes before it breaks off and goes to the one before it. But you don’t even realize that’s what’s going on until about halfway into the movie. It just seems random. To that end, I can totally understand what you mean. That would be just confusing.

Well, for the most part. DW:G has notable differences to DW. The biggest one (after they removed the ability to fire a bow) is the dash ability. It pretty much negates any reason to ever block, which removes a layer of strategy and makes it more twitch. Not that any of that mattered in DW:8, since the AI was so dumb there’s no balanced difficulty anywhere in the game.

1) Bon-Bon: Now now. That’s just cruel. Surely something at least half as awesome a series of events, that stretch well beyond imagination, will happen eventually. You know… Somewhere.

Lyra: … A bunch of vines from the Everfree Forest spread throughout town and wrecked up the place.

Bon-Bon: Poo. Who told you?

Lyra: Carrot Top.

Bon-Bon: Never cared for her much…

2) You really want to know?

3) Lyra: Everypony in Canterlot was pretty worried about it. I seemed to be the only one that paid little heed. I guess being undaunted by theatrics has its downsides.

Bon-Bon: Good heavens, no! We would never destroy a priceless artifact! It wasn’t even enchanted. It was more like… Well… I guess like a key.

“ As far as ideas for relaxing go, here’s the best one I got.
”
Haha! Maybe a little soon to jump back into that one. I was thinking about these, though. Bon-Bon gave them to me for Hearth’s Warming last year and I never got around to playing them.

As far as ideas for relaxing go, here’s the best one I got.

Haha! Maybe a little soon to jump back into that one. I was thinking about these, though. Bon-Bon gave them to me for Hearth’s Warming last year and I never got around to playing them.

image1) Bon-Bon: ‘The other day?’ Those Everfree vines invaded months ago.

Lyra: What are you talking about now?

Bon-Bon: Lyra, I know you don’t always pay attention to what’s going on, but how could you possibly… Wait a minute… [Audible Gasp] You weren’t here.

Lyra: What?

Bon-Bon: That’s right. You were in Canterlot for, like, a week. Taking pictures of flowers and house-sitting. We had it all cleaned up by the time you got back.

Lyra: You never told me about this.

Bon-Bon: Yeah yeah. But you had to have seen the sky, right?

Lyra: The day-night thing? Sure. Everypony was freaking out over it, but I just assumed it was just some promotional thing for the Summer Sunset Celebration.

Bon-Bon: Hmhmm! That means I have another secret you don’t know!

Lyra: Ugh! Bon-Bon!

3) I hope so. Seems like I haven’t done anything in forever, though.

Hope you and yours had a happy Thanksgiving!

2) Oh don’t be ridiculous. You were fine. I took a grammars class in college that opened my eyes up to how insipid a razor focus on standardized grammar is. Successfully conveying the desired information in an appropriate tone consistently is all that really matters in communication.

4) You know, I was going to change Bon-Bon’s name in the last set of questions to Roommate. But then Bon-Bon subtly reminded me of the ultimate conclusion of Scrunch Battle and I thought better of it.

1) Bon-Bon: Well, we already had a relic of sorts, so I’m going to go with the second one.

2) What? The griffon thing? What does it matter?

3) Sorry. The same thing happened to me too.

Oh! Did you get to the market and the ham-ham behind the glass? Using Scrit-T there was my favorite part of the game!

4) Simple can usually be trusted outside, but once he got out and herded a group of foals into the yard and wouldn’t let them leave.

Pretty funny looking back, but some of the kids were crying.

1) I haven’t! I was looking into it, but there’s no online emulator for GBA games. And I don’t really want to download something to play it.

I haven’t finished my first run through it, but from what I’ve gathered it sounds good! It needs a lot of work, though. Stuffed moved around, the whole piece needs to be considerably shortened, key notes that are missing. And I just don’t have any motivation right now. To do anything. I feel so tired and empty lately…

2) If I was having an affair, why would he message me? We could just talk face-to-face.

Also you’re still on thin ice with me, mister.

3) And here we are! Bye! It was nice having you!

4) Bon-Bon: I have a name.

Lyra: Just answer the question, Roommate.

Roommate: I am presently single, but-… Did you just change my-

Lyra: Moving on!

5) Well la-dee-dah. One less cryptic pony in my life. How swell.

I once thought some group called Hasbro was responsible, but in a previous conversation I was given cause to doubt.

I thought the reason was marketing for something your world would consider strange and interesting. But if I don’t know who anymore, I don’t know why.

1) Sweet potato casserole! Woo!

Sorry about Black Friday; I went out myself. I don’t usually risk it, but I needed a new mattress. Seventy percent off and a twenty year warranty. Pretty much determined what I could afford.

2) First of all, why do you care? Secondly, how many times to I have to answer? I already said yes.

3) Lyra: Ham-Hams Unite? Well I had some issues personally, but it was an alright game. I definitely enjoyed it!

Bon-Bon: You’re freezing! Go in the other direction!

4) Absolutely! Of course, it would have been a lot more genius if collecting the words wasn’t the whole game. I mean, You don’t even use a bunch of them. Also, I feel Hamtaro and Sandy have poor characterizations. Which was a shame, because all the others were spot on (near as I can remember anyway)!

It was also missing that certain duality that the show had; switching from Hamtaro and his friends, to Laura and hers. I mean, the humans weren’t even in the game.

5) Somepony talking about a show other than Doctor Who? On this website? Unheard of.

Simple is a Blue Heeler. I think they usually call it something regional in your world. He’s beautiful, playful, smart, obedient, and very active. So very active. There is no way I could take care of this dog by myself.
