Personally, I thought Deus Ex 2 was fine! Yeah, it wasn’t the same game, but it wasn’t horrible! The universal ammo thing was just a bad idea, is all.
And I think the argument that the factions to side with were all too ‘gray’ is lame. That’s life; there isn’t a right answer. You just try to pick the one you won’t lose as much sleep over.
