Ask Lyra

jmg1234-deactivated20140425 asked: she teached pre-k spec. ed

That would probably be much more difficult than what I’m doing.

And by probably, I mean definitely.

theblackstrawberry asked: Ohh okay. Sorry I haven't been on tumblr since lunch, so I've read things from 4 hours ago.

It’s all good in the ‘hood!

jmg1234-deactivated20140425 asked: thank god.... but i remember her going though pair after pair of sunglasses b/c they'd break them

Well, this is a relatively structured classroom. They give out homework and everything! Toward the end of class I even spoke with a colt that has cerebral palsy about Deus Ex: Human Revolution!

I was talking to Cheerilee at one point a while back and she told me sometimes in classrooms like that, things like learning how to work a calculator can be a challenge, even at the high school level. Homework can be completely out of the question. All depends on the mixture of students that get grouped together.

Most important thing to do is remain positive. The students are trying, and that’s the important part.

In fact, memory serves me from when I was in high school, that’s more than teachers could sometimes get out of students without any disabilities!

theblackstrawberry asked: That's okay, you should just rest your head. I heard Sweetie Belle can sing good lullabies! maybe you should ask her to sing to you so you can sleep!

Um… What?

I already took a nap today. I’m fine.

Might have napped for too long, though.

jmg1234-deactivated20140425 asked: never mind dont answer that

I already answered the last question you sent that I received.

Anonymous asked: What's an MI/MO?

Mildly/Moderately, with regards to ability to respond to instruction and complete tasks. I work in the Special ED department.

jmg1234-deactivated20140425 asked: mk, my parents both were teachers. dad taught misic and mom spec. ed

I’d have more in common with your Mom, career-wise, at the moment.

everpresentshades-blog asked: So how was work anyway? Kids give you any lip? Were any of them spending most of their lives living in Gangsta's Paradises?

It was fine. I’m working with MI/MO students. Very little resistance, once they understand what’s being asked of them. It’s a pretty positive environment, overall.

And no, but I can’t resist quite possibly the greatest rap song of all time. To this day, I believe the ponies writing that piece knew exactly how huge it was going to be.

jmg1234-deactivated20140425 asked: what grade range do you teach?

I don’t teach. I’m an aid. I just help out the teacher.

I’m signed up to work at primary and high schools, but not junior high.

More on that in the next answer.

theblackstrawberry asked: I would ask you if you wanted to hang out tomorrow, but then i remembered you have a job and are probably going to be too exhausted...

Pretty tired yeah…

I’ve got Tootsie and Sweetie home. Probably going to take a nap. Didn’t sleep much last night.

Bon-Bon thinks it was anxiety. Probably right.

jmg1234-deactivated20140425 asked: wake up. its 7:20

Are you kidding? I was up at 6:15 and I was still late!

Funny story though, the teacher for the classroom I’ll be aiding in all this week? An acquaintance from back when I worked on Canterlot castle grounds. Was totes off the hook.

This week might not be so bad!

Anonymous asked: I hear Sweetie likes prunes.... and bran!

Bran is good stuff!

Prunes on the other hoof…

Also, going to bed now. Getting up early is going to suck so bad until I get used to it…

Just explain yourself on the note! Bon-Bon will definitely tell her why you weren’t able to walk her today(tomorrow), but if you just write why you were absent lately on the memo, she’ll definitely understand. I’m going to bed myself. Night, Lyra!

Yeah… I’ll get that done tonight. Probably won’t have time tomorrow.

Thanks! And good night… Uh… Who are you again?

That’s the spirit! Just toss in a fruit roll-up and a little inspirational note for her. I don’t know if this would be the best idea, but you could also wake her up for a little bit to ask if she wants to talk. I bet she’d appreciate that!

Well… If she went to bed, I don’t want to starve her of sleep… Tootsie’s parents will take Tootsie to school, so it will just be me and Sweetie tomorrow morning. I could talk to her th-…

[omitted]! Bon-Bon has to take her tomorrow because I’ll already be at work!

Would tomorrow afternoon be too late? I should be getting to bed myself… Six-o'clock is going to be here in the blink-of-an-eye as is…

You shouldn’t… I mean, she just moved in recently, didn’t she? It would make sense that there’s a lot you don’t know about her. Don’t worry about it. I bet whatever you pack her will be something she considers special.

I guess so…

How about fruit roll-ups? Everypony loves fruit roll-ups!
